New Jersey State Council on the Arts Announces Fellowships for 2008
Series of Workshops to be Offered Across the State

(Trenton, NJ) The New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA) announces the availability of applications for Artist Fellowships. Fellowships are awarded to practicing New Jersey artists to enable them to pursue their artistic goals. Awards are based solely upon demonstrated artistic excellence and not on any other factors that may be associated with an artistic project or with the artist. Artists may use a fellowship with broad discretion in order to advance his or her career, such as purchasing supplies, attending a residency or workshop, renting studio space or otherwise freeing up their time. However fellowships may not be used for international travel, enrollment in a matriculating course of study or purchase of permanent equipment. The Artist Fellowship program is administered in partnership with the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in Baltimore, Maryland.

Applications for 2008 fellowships will be accepted in the disciplines of choreography, design, media, music composition, new genres in visual arts, painting and works on paper. The application deadline for these categories is July 16, 2007. Artists must register as a first step in the application process by using the online “CueRate” application system available at www.midatlanticarts.org. If you do not have a computer, you may visit any NJ County Library where there are computers available for the public to use at no cost. For assistance in applying, contact the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation at: 410-539-6656 extension 101 or at: 201 N. Charles Street, Suite 401, Baltimore, MD 21201. For questions about the Fellowship Program please call the Artist Services unit at the NJSCA at 609-984-7023 or contact don@arts.sos.state.nj.us.

In the next annual cycle fellowship applications will be accepted in the categories of crafts, interdisciplinary performance, photography, poetry, playwriting, prose and sculpture.

In the last complete cycle for all disciplines 795 artists from around the state applied for a fellowship. Of those, 64 were awarded fellowships which ranged from $6,500 to $12,000 for a total of $494,924 to support their professional development.
