Arts Financial and Institutional Stabilization Grants Available
The NJ State Council on the Arts and the NJ Cultural Trust Announce the Availability of Program Guidelines and Application

(Trenton, NJ) - The Guidelines and Application for New Jersey Cultural Trust grants to support Arts Institutional and Financial Stabilization projects for 2008-2009 are now available. This grant program, administered in partnership between the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the New Jersey Cultural Trust, helps to strengthen New Jersey nonprofit arts organizations enabling them to build capacity and further advance their impact.

The types of projects eligible for funding range widely and can include such things as establishing a working capital or cash reserve, strategic planning, professional development and training for board or staff, board development, marketing and fundraising strategies, and addressing deficits, among others. Grants are expected to range between $10,000 and $40,000 and do not require a match.

Notices of Intent to Apply for projects are due in the Cultural Trust office by November 9, 2007. Applications are due by January 23, 2008. The Guidelines and Application are available from the State Arts Council web site at www.njartscouncil.org.

In order to be eligible to apply for funds from this program, organizations must first be designated “qualified” by the Cultural Trust. The information and forms required for qualification are available directly from the Cultural Trust web site at www.njculturaltrust.org or by calling 609-984-6767. To be qualified an organization must be tax-exempt, be in operation for at least four years, fulfill an arts mission through active programs and services, and have a functioning board that provides financial oversight. Organizations not yet qualified are urged to complete the application process as soon as possible to ensure eligibility. Applications for qualification must be received at the Cultural Trust office by December 1, 2007 in order to be considered in this round of Arts Institutional and Financial Stabilization projects.

Established by law in 2000, the Cultural Trust represents a public/private partnership and invests funds contributed by the State of New Jersey and private sources. Last year approximately $500,000 in interest earned by the Cultural Trust was recommended for stabilization projects by the State Arts Council. 2008-2009 represents the fifth cycle of support offered.
